New Assistant County Commissioners Appointed

Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, commissioned some 859 new Assistant County Commissioners after a five-day induction course at Kenya School of Adventure and Leadership in Meru County.

Speaking during the event, the CS called upon the new appointees to be loyal, attend to and serve Kenyans with love in the respective areas they will be deployed.

“Our first duty and responsibility is to ensure that we love these people, attend to them and serve them because we have been privileged and blessed by God through President Uhuru Kenyatta to serve our people,” said Matiang’i

He told the officers that loving those that they serve was the first step to ensure justice and fairness to the citizens they serve.

He reminded the officers that they were the representatives of the government in their areas of jurisdiction and therefore should portray themselves in a positive character.

“No kind of intimidation should make you drop your guard in your behaviors. You should always act as per your ethics,” said Dr. Matiang’i.

He added, “As we approach the general elections, you should work with the Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Deputy County Commissioners, and the Commissioners in ensuring peace before, during, and after the general election by providing information needed on how the citizens are behaving.”

Matiang’i emphasized that the stability of the nation and the security of Kenyans is the administrators’ foremost responsibility.

“As administrators, we are not politicians but we work with politicians and we don’t treat people according to their political affiliation or allegiance, and therefore I urge you to be vigilant, objective, and firm when you go to your stations not to bend to political pressure, ” said Dr. Matiang’i.

Matiang’i said he will not allow the political class to influence the deployment of administration officers.

“None of our administrators from the level of Assistant Chiefs to the County Commissioners will be intimidated by anybody. Do your work, we have got your back and will take responsibility,” Matiang’i assured the ACCs.
