Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi launches bid for Nairobi Governor’s seat

Westlands Member of Parliament Timothy Wanyonyi has announced that he will be vying for Nairobi’s gubernatorial seat come 2022.

Speaking Sunday at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre when he officially launched his bid under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, Wanyonyi said his previous experience as an MP and councilor have equipped him accordingly to lead the county.

“I speak not from mere theory but from a firm knowledge and understanding of the affairs of Nairobi. Having served in Nairobi County for a total of fifteen years, I am well aware of what residents of Nairobi require and I will fix it,” said Wanyonyi.

He further stated that his administration will foster the ease of doing business in the capital through review and harmonization of existing taxes and levies and digitalization of all county levies.

In 2007, Wanyonyi was nominated as a Nairobi councillor, a position he held until 2013 when he was elected as a member of parliament for Westlands. He is now serving his second term.

He is expected to face Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Senator Johnson Sakaja, the only people who have expressed interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial seat so far.
