Mining CS John Munyes resigns to vie for Turkana governor seat

The Cabinet Secretary for Petroleum and Mining John Munyes has tendered his resignation.

Munyes, who is seeking to be the next Governor for Turkana County, announced his resignation on Tuesday ahead of the Wednesday, February 9th deadline for civil servants eyeing political seats to step aside from public office.

He becomes the second Cabinet Secretary to step aside after Devolution Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter who stepped aside on Tuesday. Keter is seeking to be the next Governor for Kericho County.

The Elections Act stipulates that public servants seeking political seats must resign at least six months before the date for the General Elections.
