President Kenyatta to commission MV Uhuru ferry on day two of Nyanza tour

President Uhuru Kenyatta will Tuesday morning preside over the commissioning of the Kisumu Shipyard limited and the flotation of MV Uhuru Wagon Ferry.

Kenya Shipyards Limited is a state company under the Ministry of Defence with a mandate to lead and catalyze the introduction of ship building industry in Eastern Africa.

MV Uhuru Il is the first vessel to be built in Kenya since 1966

The President is on a three-day working tour of Nyanza and Western Kenya regions during which he will launch several development projects.

With six days to the August 9 election, Kenyatta who has endorsed Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga as his preferred successor is making his final visit to Kisumu County as Head of State.

Since the handshake with Odinga, the President has made numerous trips to Nyanza region, where the former Prime Minister hails from and initiated several projects from 2018 while revamping those that had stalled for years.

The reopening of the Ksh3 billion refurbished Kisumu port last year injected life into the economy of the city and the entire region.
