Omanyala wins 100m gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya has taken the gold medal in the men’s 100metre final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK on Wednesday.

Omanyala made a sterling take-off to clock 10.02 seconds to win, beating defending champion Akani Simbine from South Africa to second place in 10.13 sec.

Yupun Abeykoon from Sri Lanka hauled bronze in 10.14 sec.

Omanyala recovered brilliantly from setbacks in July which saw him suffer visa issues before the World Championships.

Those problems meant he arrived in Oregon, US, just hours before his 100m heat before being knocked out in the semi-final.
